How Much Should You Practice?

I get this question all the time.

First, you need to define your goals.

Are you trying to make a club team? A high school team?

Or are you chasing college or even going pro?

If your goal is just to make a local club or high school team, around 30 minutes to 1 hour of focused, intense work outside of team practice is probably enough.

But if you’re aiming for a D1 college or a pro level, that’s a whole different story.

You’re looking at 2 to 4 hours of high intensity training, at least 5 days a week, on top of team sessions and games.

Even studies show it takes around 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to master something.

Let’s do the math here:

If you trained 2 hours every single day with no days off, it would take about 13 years and 8 months to hit 10,000 hours.

And that’s if you never took a break. No rest days, no injuries, no sick days.

So ask yourself…

Are you really putting in the work to match your goals?

Because talent might get you noticed, but discipline and consistency are what get you there.
